A Secure Digital Certificate does two very important things for your web site.

1. It proves your web site is actually you and not someone masquerading as you. The same encryption and features are offered in the shared certificate but it is not transferable to other hosting environments. Using a shared certificate is a great way to save money and yet recieve all of the features.
